Wind transport at Carson Pass

Only a dusting of new snow upon my mid-morning arrival, but significant wind transport observed throughout tour, and increasing precip rates by my early afternoon departure.

Pic 1 and 2: Shovel tilt showed clean and planar fracture on facets (pic 2) on a wind sheltered, shady slope. Similar structure observed by numerous mitt pits along Frog Lake Ridge.

Thin, fragile cornices observed along the ridge, with denser snow along lee aspects. Cornice drops only triggered shallow loose dry activity (D1), not slab fractures. However, when undercutting slab and then ski cutting above it (pic 3), I was able to trigger this shooting crack that stepped down into denser wind slab. Crack still did not extend far, but slab was well supported.
