E Shoulder of Mt Rose

Ski Tour from 7500'-10,000' on S SE E NE exposures on E shoulder of Mt Rose from 11a-3p

Warm air temps and wet surface snow already present on S SE exposure at 11a.  Soft cold snow on E NE exposures at all elevations with signs of settlement around trees and snow still in trees.  Warm wet surface snow with small roller ball activity on SE exposure at 9800'.   

Multiple mit pits on NE exposures at elevations from 8500-9500 show consolidated surface snow with no obvious signs of instability.  Tiny cornice kicks and ski cuts off top yield no instability.  Multiple tracks from different parties on slope.

Old partially buried crown observed at approx 8500' on NE exposure far down towards the bottom of the slope, almost where it would have flushed you into the creek at the bottom.  Crown was approx 100' across on an obvious convexity on a well treed slope.  It was well reburied and looked to be a few days old.

We observed the previously reported mt houghton slab avalanche from the top of our climb and took a fuzzy photo from across the valley.
