Large Avalanches During the Storm in the Mt. Rose Backcountry

Another avalanche occurred on the Proletariat during the storm. Based on the amount of storm snow on the bed surface and the debris it likely happened around midday on March 22. The failure layer was the same graupel layer resting on top of a melt-freeze crust. It is now buried about 3 - 3.5 ft down in this location. The crown spanned the entire width of the Proletariate. A crown profile on this avalanche on March 23 indicated that this layer still remains weak but that it may be difficult to get force all the way down to the layer to trigger. 

Several other avalanches appeared to have occurred around this time including another one on the more wind-loaded NE slope just w of the Proletariat, one on the E facing side of the Hourglass, possibly 2 on Relay Peak, and one in the main bowl on Incline Lake Peak. The one on the NE slope just W of Proletariat may have been more of a wind slab and may not have involved the graupel layer.
