Isolated wind slabs on Andesite Peak.

Isolated wind slabs were present on Andesite Peak with some amount of ongoing wind transport from moderate speed SW winds today. Kicking on corniced test slopes produced small wind slab failures in a few but not all areas. One small skier triggered wind slab avalanche was observed (see separate observation).

Some very minor storm slab cracking exited but overall, no major signs of instability were observed in wind protected areas below treeline.

A snowpit was dug on a NE aspect at 7,920' in open below treeline terrain near an avalanche path that had failed naturally on Thursday. Some signs of a difficult to trigger but still potentially problematic deep slab problem on faceted snow was observed 120 cm below the snow surface. No signs of instability were noted within the 100 cm of storm snow in this location.
