Snowpit from Tamarack Peak

Evidence of several avalanches and cornice collapses that occurred during the storm existed on steep wind-loaded slopes on the far east ridge of Tamarack and on slopes below the road on the east side of the pass. Snowpit data and observations from today; however, did not reveal lingering signs of instability associated with wind slabs. The recent storm snow has started to consolidate and become more cohesive and there is still a layer of loose weak snow (facets) at the base of this recent snow. Tests targetting the facet layer buried about 120cm below the surface did not show unstable results currently, but they did indicate that this layer could reactivate with additional loading. They also indicated that trigging this layer in this area seems to be getting more difficult.
