Wind transport at Carson Pass

20-30cm of new snow at Carson Pass snopark, with Moderate W winds. Snow depth and wind speed increased with elevation, with a max of 90cm probed on leeward side of Elephant's Back - 60cm average at E Back. Strong W winds near and above treeline.

Pic 1: Cracking from wind slab observed as soon as I got close to treeline.

Pic 2: New snow was dense but dry, with dry soil underneath. It didn't appear that any of the precip fell as rain in this area.

Pic 3: On leeward side of E Back, prepping for a shovel tilt test produced this shooting crack - not much reason for the shovel tilt now. All cracking observed was consistently down 10-15cm from the surface. 

2x recent small Dry Loose avalanches were observed on the main upper face of E Back, underneath a thin and fragile appearing cornice. They probably occured before the shallow slab developed.

Enough new snow to justify travel on skis - foot travel would have been difficult. But not quite enough new snow yet for downhill turns.
