Shallow Upside Down Snowpack on Tamarack Peak

Coverage remains spotty on Tamarack Peak. Even though there is enough snow to skin in places, we chose to hike in and out today to try to avoid banging into rocks with our skis. True north facing aspects had the most coverage with anywhere from 20 to 40 cm (8 to 12 in) of snow. In most areas, this snow consisted of a softer layer near the base of the snowpack and a more dense layer near the top of the snowpack. Tests and observations at a variety of locations did not show obvious signs of instability in the snowpack, but we did find lots of barely covered rocks.
