Incline Lake

We dug two snowpits in the open and in the trees on the west side of incline lake over 8000 feet in elevation. Both snowpits had an average snow depth of 145cm. About 10-15cm of fresh new snow of light density had fallen within the past 24-48 hours. The snow in the open and trees seemed unaffected by wind. About 15cm into the snowpack a 2-3cm ice/rain layer exists, hardness of a knife, this layer is the interface between the new storm snow and older layers. At about 20cm into the snowpack another smaller ~1cm ice/freeze/rain lens exists. Remaining snowpack was fairly homogenius and no weak layers were found to the base.
