Observations from Red Lake Peak

Beautiful day on Red Lake Peak. Went looking for buried Surface Hoar but wasn't able to find it. Quite a bit of skier traffic but didn't see or hear any reports of skier triggered slides.

Photo 1: Pit at 8800 feet near pin drop location. Total snow height in this location 80 cms, there was a weak layer at 41cms. CTM (13) SP and ECTP 16 at this same height. Looking carefully at the snow grains in this weak layer, I was not able to spot buried surface hoar, but this layer was noticeably less dense than the 4F snow just above it. 

Photo 2: Small wind features broke easily. Lot of evidence of recent wind activity.

Photo 3: Reverse skin track showing extent of recent wind scouring.

Photo 4: Exposed upper ridges showed evidence of recent winds.

Photo 5: Recent natural avalanche. Height of snow to the side of the lookers right flank was 130 cms. A pit in this location did not show any noticeable weak layer in the top 80 cms of snow. 

Photo 6: Large 6mm Surface Hoard widely visible below 8200 feet in this area.
