Stable unconsolidated snow on Herlan

Found no signs of consequential instability today on Herlan Peak. The height of the new snow on top of the rain crust ranged from 8'' - 22'' in the area of my tour (6300' - 8200') with some of the least new snow observed at about 7600' in wind-exposed areas near the Flume Trail. Sluffs of 1-2'' did occur on steeper isolated features but did not run more than 40' and were not heavy enough to knock a rider off their feet. At my high-point of nearly 8200' (the point noted on the map) at about 13:30 there was limited wind-driven snow transport occuring and I noticed a wind slab forming about 1/2'' thick before I left the area. This area had fewer trees than other areas. In areas below approximately 7300' the boot penetration was at least hip deep as the rain crust was not yet frozen.  Above that approximate elevation, the boot pen was only as deep as the new snow because the rain crust was more frozen.
