Hoar & Graupel on Jake’s

We climbed the east face of Jake’s on the typical skin track, where we noticed 2-4inches of new snow. Beginning at about 7500ft we observed a thin layer of surface hoar. I began to see graupel at about 8500ft, and it continued as we reached the peak and traversed the ridge. It was snowing lightly with graupel at the time. We descended a chute on the south east aspect and encountered wind deposited soft snow of varying depths with a firm crust beneath.
