Wind transport at Carson Pass

Strong W/SW winds at Carson Pass today, with significant transport observed but surprisingly few signs of instability.

Pic 1: At least 2x graupel layers within the storm snow, and a 3rd on the surface, observed today. The buried layers were the weak layers in several ECTs that fractured but did not propagate. The more concerning one (pictured) was down ~50cm and although indivudual pieces were only 1mm, the layer itself was about 3cm thick. The less concerning one was down ~20cm and less distinct. 2x ECTNs on wind loaded slopes, and 2x ECTNs on wind sheltered slopes.

Pic 2: Cracking on steep, wind loaded test slopes could only be achieved by first undercutting within 1 meter. Any farther away than that, and I could not produce cracking. Cracks were on the graupel layer 20cm down. My undercutting did not go as deep as the 50cm layer, as ski pen was fairly limited today. 1 previous crown was observed that was likely natural, and the right depth and age to be on the deeper graupel layer sometime late yesterday or last night.
