Surface Hoar in Chief Creek

The cold, clear nights have allowed the surface hoar in this area (8200', north aspect) to grow significantly. Yesterday the average size was 3-5mm, today it was 10-12mm. In addition to the large SH, there is significant near surface faceting occurring on most open northerly slopes of the Chief Creek drainage between 7600' and 8800'.

We will be watching this layer closely as the approaching storms are scheduled to be cold and not too windy.
