Cornice collapses in Johnson Canyon

Skinned up west-facing Donner Ridge from the Johnson Canyon trailhead at 9:30 a.m.. Looking across to the northeast-facing terrain in the upper portion of Johnson Canyon, several portions of a cornice along an obviously wind-loaded ridge had recently collapsed and run down a section of the slope (see attached photo). the northern (looker's right) collapses appeared to be fresher than the two to the south, which looked like they had been covered by either fresh snow or some wind deposit. The descent down Donner Ridge featured thin, partially wind-scoured snow up top, and soft wind-loaded snow in the lower portion of the slope below treeline.
