A mix of almost corn and transitional wet snow on South side of Mt. Judah.

Touring the south side of Mt. Judah we found areas of almost corn conditions and many still transitional areas of surface wet snow over dry snow. In no areas did we observe a surface melt-freeze layer thicker than 4 inches and it was most well developed below about 7,600'. This melt-freeze layer provided about a 1 hour window of corn like conditions on S aspects before it turned into muck. On adjacent SE aspects and above 7,800', all areas were still transitional and need several more diurnal melt-freeze cycles before becoming corn.

Once the surface layer had melted and wet snow existed on top of dry snow, roller balls became more prevalent and the window opened for loose wet instability from midday onwards.

N aspects held a mix of breakable crust at lower elevations, wind scoured surfaces near and above treeline, and shallow unconsolidated snow in areas with both wind protection and shade.
