Snow report from Blue Lakes

We found decent snowmobiling conditions near Blue Lakes today. The snow in open areas and on southern facing slopes was wet and heavy, but we found decent snow on open, north facing slopes, and good snow in protected, shaded areas. Not bad for the end of March. 

There were obvious signs of wind loading, especially near and above the tree line. On distant peaks I saw what appeared to be recent, smaller avalanches while there were some older avalanches that were much larger. They appeared to be wind related but I did not go close enough to be sure. 

Around noon I began to observe some roller balls on more south facing slopes so I decided to stay off those for the rest of the day. 

Multiple snowmobile cuts on a north facing test slope in a protected area did not produce any results, even after the slope was undercut.
