Wet slides on Rose South Chute

We began the climb about 8am in sunny conditions as temperatures rose.  We reached the saddle of Mt.Rose’s east face at approx 10000 ft. around 11:30, and clouds began to obscure the sun, the breeze increased and temperatures declined.  We planned to snowboard the south facing chutes and began inspecting the area for about an hour, during which temperatures were dropping at our elevation and the snow had a firm crust in exposed areas with fresh power in shaded aspects.  Upon dropping in, the snow was very firm to about 9600ft where it quickly changed to slush with a firm layer 4” below the surface.  We triggered the first wet slide about 1/3 down the chute while cutting across the slope and several more on our way to the bottom.  All were less than 10ft wide at the trigger points, about 4” deep and fanned out to about 20-30ft with runouts to the bottom of chute.
