Windy at Carson Pass

Impressively windy above tree line on Carson Pass this morning. At this elevation there is still significant amounts of soft snow available for wind transport. Skinning on flat areas we crossed firm wind slab that sounded quite hollow. Some of the near tree line terrain was scoured down to a firm crust. Below trees soft snow but heavy snow was found. On several below tree line steeper test slopes we observed cracking. Large tree bombs continue to fall and we observed one roll down the slope like something from a cartoon.

Photo 3: Wind scoured area just west of Frog Lake. There were areas scoured down to old rain crust. 

Photo 4: Around 11:20 there were periods of light rain. 

Photo 5: Slab conditions existed below tree line. Steep small test slopes showed significant cracking and this undercut slope slid about 6 inches in response to skinning.
