Blowing snow, shallow wind slabs, and large cornices on Lincoln Ridge.

Convective snow showers more often than not today on Lincoln Ridge with snowfall averaging S1. Minimal sun breaks. Strong SW winds were blowing snow on the ridgetop. Transport rates ranged from moderate to intense. As in other areas, the large cornices are making appropriate test slopes harder to find for searching out wind slab instability. We were able to ski cut two test slopes. We saw minimal crack propagation of 4-6" thick wind slabs on these slopes with no down slope wind slab failure.

We dug a snowpit in open below treeline terrain adjacent to an avalanche path to have a look at the Feb 27 rain crust now buried about 2 feet down. We saw no signs of faceting or other instability around this crust. HS at the snowpit site was >4m and we were unable to probe to ground.
