New Snow and Wind on Tamarack Peak

6-8'' of new storm snow was observed today in the Tamarack Peak area above 9000'.  Most of this snow was found in protected below treeline terrain and wind loaded areas.  Strong to gale force NE winds were actively transporting snow in near and above treeline areas and scouring exposed N-NE-E aspects down to bare ground and rock.  Wind deposited snow and building wind slabs were up to 1' deep with minor cracking seen in specific areas.  A couple patches of snow from early season storms in September/October were found in upper elevation north aspects.  This old snow was faceted and capped with a crust.  At this point, these patches of old snow are not large enough to be thought of a problem in this specific area. 

Snow coverage remains very poor for over the snow recreation at this point.
