Avalanche near near bear valley

During our ride today we ran into some other riders we knew near bear valley out little truckee summit staging area. It was around 12:30.  They told us of another group of riders who we knew, that had been involved in an avalanche. They said 1 rider triggered it, was caught and partially buried.  
 

we then rode up to where the avalanche happened. It was at 7800' on a NE aspect, a convex roll that was heavily wind loaded.  the start zone was between 38 and 42 degrees. From crown to toe it was about 280ft with a width of around 100ft. Snowmobile size debris chunks along with the debris being from 4-6' deep. 
 

I inspected the crown, that was 6' tall, it was one cohesive wind slab. It failed on the new old snow interface. I dug down below the bed surface and found the dec 11 facets below the bed surface. This avalanche did not step down to that layer. 
 

After our ride I called the person involved and spoke with him about the incident. He said his group was aware of the advisory, they were riding smart and not exposing more than one at a time and staying off slopes over 30 degrees. But he came out of the trees on a side hill and was suddenly on this slope and terrain feature, he knew right away it was a bad spot then it fractured. It sounded like he tried to out run it but with the trees he had to slow down. That's when it hit him and separated him from his sled. He was burried up to his chest I believe. And his machine was fully burried. 
 

earlier in our day we noticed some cracking in the new snow, but only near another snowmobile track that made the section of snow unsupported. Lots of wind transport evidence, and plenty of fresh powder.
