Spring Conditions on Tahoe Meadows Ridges

Even though the reactivitiy of the persistent slab has been decreasing, our group decided to stick to simple/mellow terrain in the Tahoe Meadows area. Skiing the north side of Chickadee Ridge area still yielded some soft and colder snow. Simple tests with ski poles seem to indicate that the first few feet of the snowpack were fairly uniform in strength. Rime ice that had frozen on trees a couple days ago was falling an collecting around the base of trees at and near the top of the ridgeline. Crossing the meadow, there was some very minor cracking/collapsing crossing a stream. It didn't seem like this was due to any persistent weak layer, but thinner snow over streams may be something to watch for w/ warmer temps and no appreciable snow in the next week or so. We then skied a south/southwest facing slope opposite Chickadee Ridge. Snow was sticking to bottom of skins and sun crust that had formed was melted. Spring skiing conitions on this slope.
