New snow, crusts, and buried facets on south facing slopes on Tamarack

Toured up and skied down south and southwest aspects on Tamarack from the meadows/sledding area. Just an inch or so of new snow accumulation in this area. Winds were gusty earlier in the morning with some blowing snow in open areas and at the top of Tamarack, but died off around 11 and the sun started to intermittently poke out. Dug 2 pits on south-facing slopes: the first at 9630 ft in a more protected area in moderately spaced trees, and another at 9370 ft on the edge of a small clearing. Found rounding facets under an old crust buried 20-35 cm (more shallow at the higher, more protected location). Snowpack at the lower, more open location had more complex stratigraphy (i.e. more buried crusts). Got ECTN14 and ECTN16 at the higher and lower pits, respectively (both failed on the top of the buried rounding facets layer). The crust under the new snow was not supportable while skinning up (localized cracking around our skis at all elevations, particularly in more treed areas), but was mostly supportable skiing down.
