Variable Conditions of Powderhouse

We encountered variable snow conditions throughout our tour on Powderhouse Peak today.  A breakable melt freeze crust has developed on the surface on northerly aspects all the way up to the top of the peak (~9,350').  The upper snowpack on northerly aspects continues to be made up of weak crusts along with loose sugary snow.  This weak snow structure remains a concern for a possible deep slab avalanche problem with a large loading event in the forecast.  See snowpit for additional details.  Easterly aspects were sun warmed and provided a soft and wet surface snow.
