Poor Snowpack Structure on Northerly Terrain

Went for a late afternoon jaunt up Incline Peak today to have a look at the snowpack structure on various aspects before this large forecasted storm load. I dug into the snow (hastily) on an ESE aspect above a prominent chute / gully in the east bowl as well as around the corner in the NE facing trees.

The upper snowpack in the ESE gully was moist and consisted of a series of crust layers with progressively firmer snow underneath. A compression test at this location yielded a CTN result.

Checking in with the snowpack on a sheltered NE aspect revealed the recent new snow from March sitting on top of looser unconsolidated grains. A compression test at this location resulted in CT28 B (non-planar break).

Overall waffle-y snowpack conditions. The pack on northerly terrain seemed to show potential for avalanche activity if a heavy load were to be added on top.
