Elephant's Hump Area

I toured the Elephant's Hump area from the Red Lake parking lot to the flat knoll just east of Elephant's Back. I started at 1:45 pm with clearing skies and light to moderate winds. I arrived at the knoll at about 3 pm. In the last 20 mins of the ascent, the clouds and winds picked up rapidly, and when I crested up on to the knoll, the winds were blowing, the snow was coming down, and Elephant's Back was almost completely obscured. I descended north, northeast, and northwest aspects of mostly below 30 degree slopes, with two short slopes greater than 30 degrees. The new snow was 5-6 in in depth on top of crust with about 4 in at the top of the knoll where it was more wind-blown. The new snow had not bonded with the crust, and on steeper slopes, small sluffs released as I descended. When I left the area at about 4 pm, the snow was coming down at a good pace.
