Snowpit from Jake's Peak

Snow from last night and this morning brought around 33 cm of new snow at just below 8,000 ft on the north aspect of Jake's Peak where we dug our snowpit in search of the buried surface hoar and persistent slab problem. The surface snow was quite dense due to cross-loaded winds and a faint layer of surface hoar was found 33 cm down from the surface. Just below that at 37 cm down we found evidence of near crust facets. Two column tests were conducted and produced similar results a CT6 down 33 cm Sudden Planar on the Buried Surface Hoar and CT12 down 37 SC on near crust facets. ECTN@33cm down. Did not observe any whumphing or cracking or see any signs of avalanche activity.
