Limited Signs of Instability on Incline Lake Peak

We toured in the Incline Lake Peak area today to monitor the new storm snow.  3.5-4' of recent new storm snow was observed in this area.  The storm snow has started to settle and gain strength with trail breaking conditions shin deep, much less than we experienced yesterday along the Sierra Crest.  No signs of instability were observed in below treeline terrain.  We dug a snowpit in below treeline terrain to take a look at the new/old snow interface.  No weakness was detected by snowpack tests on the previous firm rain crust or near crust facets, and the previously buried surface hoar was not found in this area.  Along the upper ridgeline, cornices were reactive to ski kicks, but wind slabs were mostly unreactive.  Overall, the lack of avalanche activity during and after this storm has been surprising given the large storm load and the potential previous weak layers in the snowpack.
