Avalanche on Dicks Peak

Submitted photo as viewed from Jake's Peak on Jan 5. Appears to be a natural persistent slab avalanche that most likely failed during the afternoon hours of Jan 4 during storm event. No other info known. Will update this observation if more info becomes available.

Several photos have been submitted from different apparent avalanches that have occurred on the North face of Dicks Peak this winter.  It is not clear that the most recent photo on Jan 5 had anything to do with the Dec 11 persistent weak layer or that the avalanche even occurred during the Jan 4 storm event.  It does appear that this area has avalanched several times this winter.  This north face historically has been an area that receives a lot of wind scouring with the bed surface of these avalanches having a shallow snowpack and even exposed rock through some of this terrain.  It is a very exposed slope in above treeline terrain with unique wind scouring and loading characteristics.
