Touchy Cornice on Andesite

I was served a thick slice of humble pie today. 

I intentionally kicked at a cornice that broke off underneath my skis and took me for a short ride. I went down hill head first and came to a rest on top of the small debris pile. Uninjured but lost a ski pole.

I thought I was in a safe spot to test the cornice but it broke further away from the edge than I anticipated. I spend a lot of time in this zone and today I got complacent. I let my guard down and almost paid the price. 

I'm extremely embarrssed but I wanted to share as a reminder to others. Don't get complacent. Don't let seemingly tame conditions deceive you.
