Spring Snow on Incline Peak

We toured through the Incline Peak area to monitor snow surface warming and find some good spring snow.  A good overnight refreeze occurred in this area with full sun and warming temperatures softening snow on sun exposed aspects in wind protected areas by mid morning.  The NE/E winds were blowing moderate to strong along the upper ridges and peaks in this area.  These winds kept it cool and the snow surface firm on wind exposed northerly aspects with warming on southerly aspects slightly delayed compared to the last couple days.  Good spring snow conditions were found on SE/E aspects between 11am-12pm.  We dug a test pit at 9680' on a SE aspect at 10:45am (39.29716N -119.95009 W) and found a firm melt freeze surface crust 3'' thick, on top of some transitional snow (crusts and softer snow), on top of previous melt freeze crusts.  Snow coverage on these SE and S aspects in this area are melting quickly with more and more obstacles showing.
