Corn skiing near Meiss Meadow

   Driving through Hope valley this morning, temps were around 33 degrees F, indicating freezing temps down low and prompting the idea there was an inversion within the valley floor. As we drove higher the temps did climb and were around 40 degrees F @ 8000'. However, there was signs of overnight freezing at this elevation as we walked through breakable crusts on W-SW aspects below tree line. As we continued our ascent, there was a steady light east wind that was not transporting snow but was keeping the surface cool, firm, and supportable all the way up to 9400' on a SE-S facing slope @ 11:30am. From the summit we skied NE-E facing aspect that had begun to soften but was an inch of loose surface snow near the top. On the rest of the descent, snow became softer and softer even through old wind effected snow that was bumpy but mushy. The soft snow became deeper (3 inches at best) and stickier by the time we got down to 8500'.Our ski turns and cuts did show the surface snow was wet and cohesive causing clumps of snow to go down hill, pinwheels did not develop. We skinned out of Meiss and rolled back over to the same SE-S aspects around 1300. At this time the wind was completely gone and the snow had started to soften on these southerly aspects making enjoyable skiing on the back to the truck. I did not see any signs of loose activity in the surrounding rocks or terrain around us, but may started to happen later in the day as temps were climbing and the wind was completely gone.
