Waterhouse

We toured up to Waterhouse Knob -- the false summit located about 440 vertical feet below Waterhouse Peak for the AIARE 2 portion of our Decision-making in Avalanche Terrain course. Conditions on the skin up were relatively firm with approximately 2-3 inches of new snow from the previous night. We dug a snowpit at about 9041 feet on a southeast facing slope of 20 degrees. Total snow depth was 110 cm. A compression test showed instability at a relatively shallow 100 cm. 

We skied down northeast from the knob and encountered mostly light new powder on crust conditions -- a bit more than dust on crust.
