Observation
Description of Snow, Weather, and Avalanche Conditions:

We went up to Barker Pass to collect observations on the current snow coverage and layering of the snowpack.  Snow coverage is limited in this area below 8000' on all aspects, with sections of continuous snow coverage above 8200' on northerly aspects.  As we headed North past Barker Peak, we observed an avalanche off of Peak 8620' on a NE aspect.  We investigated this avalanche to see what it could tell us about the current snowpack in this area.  The avalanche was old, with very firm avalanche debris and surrounding snow that had been rained on and exposed for sometime.  We're confident that this avalanche occurred during the end of our last storm on Tuesday Nov 9 after around 6-10'' of dense new snow fell with rising snow levels through the afternoon.  Rain runnels were on the snow surface with no additional new snow on the avalanche debris or adjacent slopes.  We dug a snowpit adjacent to the avalanche that revealed a very cohesive snowpack with firm pencil to ice hard snow from top to bottom.  No current instabilities were found in this area and no other evidence of any avalanche activity was observed.
