Rollers on Castle Peak

Beautiful day along the crest. Got out a little late today but wanted to see how the snow had changed. To my delight, it was pretty good skiing. Mainly spring conditions with an unsupportable snowpack at lower elevations. As the elevation gained, the snow firmed up a bit and was more supportable, likely because of the winds keeping it cool even in the strong sun. This led to near-corn conditions in some sections of the upper elevations, especially along W-N aspects. Snow conditions detereorated greatly at about 8,200 where pinwheels/rollers were present. Pinwheels came off my skis and were not natural. Possible to see the same condition naturally occur on steeper slopes today. Worth mentioning is the large cornice forming along the top of Castle Peak. Rapid warming and spring like conditions could make that a bad one to walk on.
