Description of Snow, Weather, and Avalanche Conditions:

I toured up to the North summit of Mt. Judah this morning. It was snowing lightly with a light to moderate SW wind when I left the parking lot around 10:00. The snow and wind increased throughout my tour, which ended around 12:45 pm. On my ascent, there were small but building cornices on the E aspect of Flower Ridge. Ski kicks here produced some cracking and some small soft slab failure at the interface of the storm snow with the old melt-freeze crust surface.
Storm snow depths on the N flank of Judah above Flower Ridge were between 20 and 40cm. Hand pits did not reveal any obvious instabilities in the storm snow.

I dug a pit on a Somewhat wind affected open north facing slope at 8000'. Height of snow was 230cm. I found 48cm of storm snow over the old melt freeze crust surface. This storm snow consisted of 13 cm of Fist hard over 29cm of 4 Fingers hard over 6cm of 1 Finger hard snow. I performed an ECT that did not show propensity for propagation. ECTN11 down 16 BRK and ECTN19 down 29 BRK.
I skied two laps off the NNE aspect of Mt Judah. Ski quality was good, with the first turns on the NE ridge proper softer than expected given the winds.
