No signs of instability observed at Round Top

Our intended descent line faces NW and doesn't get sun until after noon, so we waited until 11am to leave the Carson Pass sno-park. Even with this late start, we saw signs of a good overnight refreeze, with minimal ski and boot penetration both under dense tree cover and out in the open. The slopes near Round Top still hadn't fully transitioned to spring snow - instead they had a crust on top of a few inches of dry snow. We bailed on our intended descent because of the poor quality of these transitioning conditions, and managed to instead find great corn in full sun. At 2pm this was relatively late in the day for the time of year. Even so, on our return through low elevation open slopes and tree cover, ski and boot penetration remained minimal.

Pic 2: Lots of old roller ball and small loose avalanche activity. I think these were at least a couple days old, and no new signs of instability were observed today.

Pic 3: Ski and boot penetration was minimal even in full sun. Ideal corn skiing conditions with a forgiving timing window.
