Remotely Triggered Avalanche on Lincoln Ridge

We toured out from Yuba Pass in familiar and manageable terrain to monitor the large storm impacting the forecast area today.  1 foot of new storm snow was at the trailhead this morning with consistent snowfall throughout the day at around 2 inches/hour.  This new storm snow sits on our previous shallow and weak snowpack with loose and sugary near surface facets on the old snow surface.  We had consistent cracking and shooting cracks in near treeline areas.  One of these shooting cracks was triggered from low angle northerly terrain and traveled 500' long while remotely triggering an avalanche in steeper terrain along its path.  The avalanche failed on the old snow near surface facets along with all the shooting cracks also going down to this weak faceted layer.  This now buried near surface facet layer will continue to be a major concern going forward.
