Andesite Peak New Old Snow Interface

Dug a pit on an East aspect at 7,525' with a 20 degree slope angle wind speeds moderate coming from the southwest. Hight of snow approximately 100cm foot pen of 75cm and a snowfall rate of aprox 4cm/hr. Air temp was -5 degrees C. I observed approximately 50cm of new snow on top of a melt freeze and facet layer. My partner and I toured to the ridgeline of andesite to look at the steeper east and north east facing slopes. after some poking and jumping we got no significant reactions.

We observed the new snow interacting with a non traditional bottom layer for the tahoe area. I selected no PWLs due to our findings but I would assume that a weak layer in the old snow pack with the faceting observed over the past weeks could cause a pwl to form. I will be curious to see if any natural avalanches occur with tomorrows clear skies. Definatley a snowpack to be cautious of.
