Mt. Judah Observations

We toured from Donner Pass to the Mt Judah area today.  Cold temperatures and low lying fog made for a very chilly morning.  We ascended above the fog at around 7500' at 9:30am.  Moderate NE winds kept conditions cool with scouring occurring in most wind exposed locations.  Even with these moderate winds, limited snow transport was observed with no wind slab development noted in this area.  Surface hoar was mostly widespread in below treeline up to near treeline areas.  Sun crusts are present on SE-S aspects with E aspects variable.  Tree drippings are pronounced at lower elevations and on solar aspects.
