Limited signs of Instability in the Carpenter Ridge Area

We toured in the Carpenter Ridge area today to continue to monitor the PWL problem.  We were able to identify 4 old avalanches from the previous avalanche cycle; two were most likely attributed to cornice collapses that initiated fractures on the PWL, the third was a cross loaded wind slab on a S aspect and the fourth was observed from over a mile away on a N aspect in steep, exposed, complex terrain.  We saw no fresh avalanche activity, wind slab development or signs of instability.  Surface hoar was present in cold, shaded northern facing terrain as well as some near surface facets in the top 1-2 cm, with limited precipitation in the forecast it isn't alarming at this time.  Shaded and sheltered aspects are still holding cold snow.
