Warming Temperatures and Blowing Snow on Mt. Judah

We made observations on Mt. Judah to continue monitoring the Dec 1 persistent weak layer and the recent wind loading.  Snow surface conditions changed rapidly today as temperatures warmed up to near or slightly above freezing up to 8000'.  Precipitation remained mostly snow on our tour with a rain/snow mix at times as a warming trend continued throughout the late morning into the early afternoon.  On our tour today, we had 2 whumpfing sounds in below treeline terrain on northerly aspects.  We dug 2 separate test pits and had 2 ECTN results that did not propagate.  We did not see any signs of wind slab avalanches in the heavily wind loaded terrain in this area.  Cornices are becoming large and built out in many wind prone locations.  The snow became wet and sticky by 1pm below 7400'.
