Propagation on November Facets in Carson Range

Dug a quick test pit outside the Heavenly boundary at 8200 feet on a north aspect, targeting the facets to see how propagation potential had changed with continued loading. The upper snowpack showed a bit more complex character than we had found at a higher location a few days prior, due to the fluctuating temperatures with the most recent storm. We found 32 cm of storm snow on top that had fallen since Saturday evening, with a slight hardness change at the midway point.  There was a 6 cm crust below it, which had formed when the percolated meltwater and rain from the warm conditions at the early part of the storm had frozen. Below that was another 20 cm of storm snow from the 12/1 storm, and all of that was underlain by 31 cm of basal facets. We had failures in our column test at the hardness change in the storm snow, at the crust interface, and also at the facets. Our ECT had very clean propagation at the facet interface at 12 taps, still showing quite touchy conditions at this location.
