Description of Snow, Weather, and Avalanche Conditions:

I avoided using the packed trail, and took different routes to and from Winnemucca Lake on undisturbed snow, yet only experienced one whumpf today. The midpack above the facets was strong and supportable. Cold, loose snow and surface hoar observed on the surface. Surface hoar was growing surprisingly close to many trees. I could see a few crowns and debris piles on the steep terrain east of Frog Lake, but they were mostly obscured by additional snowfall. I could not see evidence of prior avalanche activity on Round Top or The Sisters.

My snow profile indicated strong snow above the facets, and the snowpack may be on the cusp of becoming difficult to get feedback from. I was surprised to get an ECT result, not because of stability, but because the structure of the snow is getting close to the limits of the ECT. I think I'll be doing more PSTs and Deep Taps once we get additional snow, to avoid getting "false stable" results from the ECT.
