East Face of Red Lake Peak

Set out to check out some bigger slopes on straight E terrain.  Took some careful terrain management to stay off of North tilted slopes on the way up and try to keep the slope angle as low as possible on the skintrack.  Overall, we found that straight E terrain betweeen 8000 and 1000ft had a much different snowpack structure than NE thru NW.  HS was generally about half the depth as on polars, and we found a progressively denser pack to the groud, and an absence of any PWL.  Had a good hunch that this area had been hammered by NE winds in November as well as quite a bit more solar influence.  Overall we found good to excllent skiing with some wind affect from increasing SW winds on the rideglines.  No settlement or collapses throughout the entire tour, even in the cold shady meadows.  No results in small road-cut test slopes, and no signs of recent avalanches.
