Variable snow surface but seemed avy safe

Tour (mix of skinning and axe/crampon bootpacking) from Jones Creek TH to summit of Chocolate Peak. Consistent snow coverage initially on Jones Creek Trail then cutting up ENE bowl of Chocolate.  Skied the same. Snow was incredibly variable from supportable and textured hardpack to non-reactive slab to faceted powder and everywhere in between. Lots of reeds etc but mostly navigable with care. Enjoyable turns could be found when selective and patient. Even hardpack often had surface softness. No cracking or whumping. Occassionally kicked off isolated small slab debris, but rare. Bootpacking on the route ranged from supportable slab/crusts to punching through hassles. Again patience and selectivity were an asset.
