Near surface faceting in Johnson canyon

Out with students on an day 2 AIARE level 1 course, we dug a snow pit on a sheltered NW facing slope ~6700 feet. Our target was to locate near surface faceting described by the forecasters observation in deep creek from earlier this week. Upon digging we found faceted crystals beneath the 1/7 rain crust. We conducted multiple ECT's with ECTP 29 and ECTP 30 results. HS in our location was 140 and our buried weak layer was found @120cm.
