Dry snow and no wind transport at Spooner

We spent the day linking the generally E facing drainages between Spooner and Genoa Peak, and found cold snow and facets for excellent riding conditions. Winds were strong even down in the trees, and more so along the main N/S ridge splitting the Tahoe Basin from the Carson Valley. However, minimal wind transport was observed - probably because the windward slopes near ridgetop are mostly bare in this area. Although the facets on cold slopes were quite weak, we never saw enough slab above them to be a concern.

Pics 1&2: Cold snow over facets for good riding conditions and occasional deep trenching. Trench checks and mitt pits showed weak facets under the surface, but no slab above.

Pic 3: Bluebird over the East Shore, and cloud cover over the West and North Shores. It looked like a few places may have been receiving some precipitation.
