Graupel weak layer under shallow, soft slabs

Interesting to find very soft slab on a N-aspect above treeline slope between ILP and RKP. Snow texture catalogued north winds and there was some small amount of blowing snow on ridgelines before winds calmed near midday. Most new snow was about 6" and right side up but this particular location had a cohesive layer about 6-8" on top of graupel at the hard old snow interface. Hand pits showed a possibility of shearing in this layer. Nearby in a gully feature was 6" deep graupel. Most skiing on north-facing slopes under 30 degrees was pleasant hippy pow. More east and old tracks meant hitting the hard bottom more. Temps remained cool through midday when we left.
