Heavy wind effected snow near Round top peak.

       Went out to Round top area to look at the extent of damage and wind slab development from the last E-NE wind pattern over the last few days. Upon arrival the weather at 8500' was surprisingly warm registering 42F in my truck @ 0930. Wind was non existent and there was a few clouds overhead. The trail below tree line was well protected from the recent winds and still held cold unconsolidated snow that has widespread NSF growing; however, there was isolated pockets of surface hoar, melt freeze crusts and wind effect mixed in this terrain as well. I dug a pit within treeline and there was no sign of buried surface hoar within it. The rain crust was present but was brittle and snow below it was warm and compressible. I completed a compression test and there was no results at any depth. The only concerning component was the 3-5cms of NSF at the top below surface hoar.  Once clearing tree line the wind effect was more abundant and slab development varied from breakable to fully supportable slabs, either way weak snow existed underneath. Looking towards Round top and the Sisters wind affected snow was widespread and rocks were showing everywhere. Early in the afternoon a slight breeze picked up but there was no moving snow insight. No other signs of instability were observed.
